AMC Calls for Immediate Review of Critical Incident Involving Bloodvein First Nation Citizen at Grace Hospital

The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) is calling for an immediate external review of a critical incident involving a Bloodvein First Nation citizen at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg.

The incident occurred on June 10th, when a 52-year-old Bloodvein First Nation citizen was admitted to the hospital with COVID-19.

According to the AMC, the man was left unattended for several hours, and his condition deteriorated. He was eventually transferred to the intensive care unit, where he died on June 13th.

The AMC is calling for a full and independent investigation into the incident, to ensure that all the facts are known and that any necessary changes are made to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

The AMC is also calling for the immediate implementation of Bill C-21, which would require hospitals to provide culturally competent care to Indigenous patients.

The AMC is deeply concerned about the incident, and extends its condolences to the family and friends of the man who died.

The AMC is committed to working with the government and other stakeholders to ensure that all Indigenous peoples in Manitoba have access to quality health care.
