Amsterdam police shoot confused woman in leg in Oost
A police officer in Amsterdam shot a 71-year-old woman in her leg in the Oost district of the city on Sunday evening after she threatened officers with a knife, police said.
The woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured in the incident.
Police were called to the scene at around 8:30 p.m. following reports of a woman wielding a knife and threatening people in the street.
When officers arrived, they tried to talk to the woman, but she refused to drop the knife and instead advanced towards them.
One of the officers then fired a single shot, which hit the woman in the leg.
The woman was taken to hospital, where she is being treated for her injuries.
The incident is being investigated by the Rijksrecherche, the Dutch national police investigation service.
