Detroit Pistons Sign Free Agent Forward Ausar Thompson
Former Georgetown Star Set to Make NBA Debut
Thompson Excited for Opportunity to Play in Hometown
The Detroit Pistons have signed free agent forward Ausar Thompson to a two-way contract, the team announced today. Thompson, the younger brother of Pistons guard Jaden Ivey, was a standout player at Georgetown University.
"It feels great," Thompson said of joining the Pistons. "I'm excited to be back home and to play for the Pistons. I'm ready to get to work and help the team win."
Thompson was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team in his first season at Georgetown. He averaged 12.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game in his sophomore season, leading the Hoyas to the NCAA Tournament.
Thompson is a versatile forward who can play both inside and outside. He is a good shooter and passer, and he has a knack for rebounding. He is also a good defender, with the ability to guard multiple positions.
The Pistons are hoping that Thompson can provide them with some much-needed depth at the forward position. The team has been struggling to find consistency at the position all season, and Thompson's arrival could help to stabilize the rotation.
Thompson is excited to get started with the Pistons and is eager to prove himself in the NBA. He is confident that he can be a valuable contributor to the team.
"I'm just trying to come in and play hard every day," Thompson said. "I'm trying to help the team win games and get better every day."
The Pistons are scheduled to open the regular season on October 19th against the Orlando Magic.
