Ferrari considers placing Arthur Leclerc alongside Charles Leclerc in Abu Dhabi
Fresh from winning this year's Formula 2 championship, Arthur Leclerc is being considered by Ferrari to partner his older brother Charles in Abu Dhabi later this month.
A momentous occasion
Should the deal go through, it will be the first time two brothers have raced together in Formula 1 since 2007 and only the sixth time ever.
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has confirmed that Arthur is a candidate to replace Antonio Giovinazzi, who will leave the team at the end of the season.
“We are evaluating our options for the second seat in Abu Dhabi, and Arthur is certainly one of the candidates we are considering,” Binotto said.
A talented driver
Arthur Leclerc has had a successful season in Formula 2, winning two races and finishing second in the championship.
He is also a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy and has been tipped as a future star of the sport.
If he does get the call up, it will be a proud moment for the Leclerc family.
Their father, Herve, raced in Formula 1 in the 1990s, and Charles Leclerc is now one of the most exciting drivers on the grid.
A difficult decision
Ferrari has a tough decision to make.
On the one hand, Arthur Leclerc is a talented driver with a bright future.
On the other hand, he is still only 21 years old and has limited experience in Formula 1.
Weighing up the options
Binotto said that Ferrari will take its time to make a decision.
“We need to carefully weigh up all the options before we make a decision,” he said.
“We need to consider Arthur's experience, his potential, and how he would fit into the team.”
A big opportunity
If Arthur Leclerc does get the call up, it will be a big opportunity for him.
He will be able to learn from one of the best drivers in the world and race for one of the most prestigious teams in Formula 1.
