Jackson Fields Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

Southern Miss sophomore quarterback Jackson Fields earned Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honors following his record-breaking performance in the Golden Eagles' 62-28 win at ULM on Saturday.
The Starkville, Miss. native threw for a career-best 378 yards and accounted for five touchdowns as he led Southern Miss to its fourth-straight victory and improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in league play.
Fields completed 13-of-17 passes, including two touchdown strikes to Jason Brownlee and a 67-yard scoring bomb to redshirt freshman receiver Rashad Byrd III. He also found success on the ground, rushing for 76 yards and a career-high three touchdowns on eight carries, including an 11-yard keeper that gave Southern Miss an early 14-0 lead.
This marks the second time this season that Fields has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Week, becoming just the third Golden Eagle to earn the accolade multiple times in a single season.
Fields now has nine games with at least one touchdown pass, while also recording four games with a rushing touchdown, including his three against ULM. He leads the Sun Belt with 17 total touchdowns (14 pass, 3 rush) and ranks as one of the top passers in the league, with 1,542 yards and a 168.28 pass efficiency rating.
Under Fields' direction, the Southern Miss offense has been one of the most explosive in the Sun Belt this season, averaging 39.2 points and 471.5 yards per game.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, Oct. 15, when they host Troy at M.M. Roberts Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
