Liveticker: Afolayan verzieht – St. Pauli nähert sich dem Braunschweiger Tor
Change in St. Pauli's attack
According to "Bild", St. Pauli is about to sign another striker. Accordingly, the Kiezkicker are said to have reached an agreement with Tolu Afolayan from 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The 25-year-old is said to have passed the medical check on Tuesday and could be officially presented before the DFB Cup game against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Tuesday evening.
Attributes
Afolayan is considered a variable attacker who can be used as a center forward or on the wing. Last season, he scored seven goals and prepared six more in 33 competitive games for Kaiserslautern. The Nigerian has a contract with the Palatinate until 2024. However, he is said to have an exit clause that could be activated for a transfer fee of 1.5 million euros.
Need for reinforcement
The signing of Afolayan would be a reaction to the injury of Etienne Amenyido. The Togolese had torn a cruciate ligament in the test match against Dithmarschen and will be out for a long time. In addition, David Otto is still struggling with back problems.
Expectation
Afolayan is expected to quickly fit into the St. Pauli team. The 25-year-old knows the 2nd division well from his time at Kaiserslautern and is also familiar with the playing style of coach Timo Schultz. It is therefore quite possible that Afolayan will make his debut for the Kiezkicker in the DFB Cup game against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
