Lyft Driver Left with Life-Threatening Injuries After Stabbing, Robbery
Unprovoked Attack Leaves Driver in Critical Condition
A Lyft driver was left with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed and robbed in an unprovoked attack in Philadelphia on Tuesday night. The driver, identified as 32-year-old Muhammad Anwar, was working when he picked up two passengers around 10:30 p.m. Shortly after the passengers entered the vehicle, they demanded Anwar's money and stabbed him multiple times in the chest and abdomen.
Suspects Flee Scene, Police Search Continues
Anwar was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery. The suspects fled the scene in Anwar's vehicle, which was later recovered by police. As of Wednesday morning, the suspects remained at large and police were actively searching for them.
Lyft has condemned the attack and is providing support to Anwar and his family. The company has also implemented additional safety measures for its drivers, including a new feature that allows passengers to be tracked in real time.
Community Outpouring of Support
The attack on Anwar has sparked an outpouring of support from the community. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for his medical expenses, and local residents have organized a vigil to show their support for him and his family.
The incident has also raised concerns about the safety of ride-sharing drivers. Lyft and other companies have been criticized for not doing enough to protect their drivers from violence.
Ongoing Investigation
Police are continuing to investigate the attack and are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspects. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department.
