Meteor Lights Up Morning Sky in Calgary
Streaking fireball captured on video
Spectacular sight leaves witnesses in awe
A brilliant meteor lit up the morning sky in Calgary, Alberta, on Tuesday, leaving witnesses in awe.
The fireball was captured on video by several residents, showing a bright streak of light shooting across the sky. The meteor was also visible from parts of Saskatchewan and British Columbia.
According to Dr. Alan Hildebrand, a professor of planetary science at the University of Calgary, the meteor was likely a small asteroid that entered Earth's atmosphere and disintegrated.
"It's a reminder that the Earth is constantly being bombarded by these objects," Hildebrand said. "Most of them are too small to cause any damage, but occasionally a larger one will hit our planet."
The meteor that lit up the sky over Calgary was about the size of a car. It entered the atmosphere at a speed of about 40,000 kilometers per hour.
The meteor's impact with the atmosphere created a shock wave that shook buildings in Calgary. The shock wave also caused a loud boom that was heard by many people.
There were no reports of any injuries or damage caused by the meteor.
