Real Madrid Women fall to FC Twente in Champions League
Madrid saw their perfect start to the season come to an end on Wednesday night as they lost 3-1 away to FC Twente in the Women's Champions League.
Despite taking the lead through Olga Carmona, Madrid conceded three second-half goals to slump to their first defeat of the campaign.
Madrid had won their first three games in all competitions this season, scoring 13 goals and conceding none, but they were unable to maintain that form against a strong Twente side.
The Spanish champions took the lead in the 18th minute when Carmona pounced on a loose ball in the Twente area and fired home, but the Dutch side leveled just before half-time through Renate Jansen.
Twente then took the lead in the 65th minute through Fenna Kalma, and they made sure of the points with a third goal from Marisa Olislagers in the 89th minute.
The defeat leaves Madrid in second place in Group B, behind Twente on goal difference. They will be looking to bounce back when they host FC Fleury 91 in their next Champions League game on October 26.
