Rockets, Clippers Reach Agreement to Complete Chris Paul Trade
Houston Sends Chris Paul, Two Draft Picks to L.A. in Exchange for Lou Williams, Patrick Beverley, Montrezl Harrell and a Future First-Round Pick
ESPN Reports the Rockets sent Chris Paul, two future second-round picks to the LA Clippers for guards Lou Williams, Patrick Beverley and Montrezl Harrell, in addition to a future first round pick.
The deal was agreed upon in principle late Sunday and could not be completed until the moratorium on NBA free agency ended at 12:01 a.m. ET Monday, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Paul, 34, made the All-NBA second team last season and averaged 15.6 points, 8.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game for the Rockets.
He also made 21 of 53 3-pointers in the playoffs, the most by any player in NBA history.
Paul is entering the final year of his contract and is due to make $38.5 million next season.
The Rockets are reportedly looking to move Paul in order to clear cap space and make a run at free agent Kawhi Leonard.
Leonard is reportedly considering signing with the Lakers, Clippers or Raptors.
The Clippers are reportedly interested in signing Leonard and believe that adding Paul to their roster would make them a contender for the NBA championship.
The Rockets are reportedly willing to trade Paul to the Clippers even if it means they do not get a star player in return.
The Rockets are reportedly hoping to get a young player and a future first-round pick in exchange for Paul.
