Saskatoon Polling Station Opens Late Due to Missing Ballots
Voters in Saskatoon's Ward 6 faced delays on election day after their polling station was forced to open late due to missing ballots.
The polling station at École St. Paul School was scheduled to open at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, November 7, but did not open until 9:15 a.m. after Elections Canada staff were able to locate and deliver the missing ballots.
The issue was first reported by a voter who arrived at the polling station at 7:30 a.m. and was told by staff that the ballots had not yet arrived. The voter was told that staff were working to resolve the issue and would open the polling station as soon as possible.
The polling station eventually opened at 9:15 a.m. after staff were able to locate and deliver the missing ballots. Elections Canada apologized for the delay and said that they were working to ensure that all voters were able to cast their ballots.
The delay did not appear to have a significant impact on voter turnout, as the polling station was busy throughout the day. Many voters said that they were understanding of the situation and were glad that the polling station was able to open eventually.
“I was a little frustrated at first, but I understand that things happen,” said one voter. “I’m just glad that I was able to vote in the end.”
Elections Canada said that they are investigating the cause of the delay and will take steps to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
