Stanford Women’s Basketball Returns to AP Top 25
Cardinal Make First Appearance in Poll Since January 2023
Stanford women’s basketball has returned to the Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll for the first time since January 2023. The Cardinal, who are currently 11-3 on the season, are ranked No. 25 in the latest poll. This is the first time Stanford has been ranked in the Top 25 since they were ranked No. 23 in the preseason poll.
Stanford has won four straight games since their loss to No. 1 South Carolina on December 18th. During that stretch, the Cardinal have defeated three ranked opponents, including No. 12 UCLA and No. 15 Oregon. Stanford is now 3-2 against ranked opponents this season.
Cameron Brink and Haley Jones Lead the Way
Cameron Brink and Haley Jones have been the leaders for Stanford this season. Brink, a 6-foot-7 center, is averaging 14.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks per game. Jones, a 6-foot-1 forward, is averaging 14.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.
Brink has been a force on the defensive end for Stanford. She is currently ranked second in the nation in blocks per game. Jones has been a do-it-all player for the Cardinal. She is averaging over 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists per game.
Stanford’s Schedule is Tough
Stanford’s schedule is tough over the next few weeks. The Cardinal will play six of their next seven games against ranked opponents. Stanford will host No. 3 Utah on January 5th and No. 14 Arizona on January 8th. The Cardinal will then travel to No. 18 Oregon State on January 12th and No. 25 Colorado on January 15th.
Stanford will be tested over the next few weeks, but they have the talent to compete with anyone in the country. The Cardinal are a legitimate contender for the Pac-12 championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
