VfL Wolfsburg, Galatasaray S.K. Book Quarterfinal Berths in UEFA Women's Champions League
Wolfsburg Overcomes Roma
German powerhouse VfL Wolfsburg secured a place in the UEFA Women's Champions League quarterfinals after a hard-fought 2-1 victory at AS Roma on Wednesday.
Wolfsburg dominated possession throughout the match but had to wait until the second half to break the deadlock. Ewa Pajor's close-range finish gave the visitors the lead in the 55th minute, and Kathrin-Julia Hendrich doubled the advantage just six minutes later.
Roma pulled one back through Annamaria Serturini's header in the 80th minute, but Wolfsburg held on to secure the win.
Galatasaray S.K. Stuns Arsenal
In a major upset, Turkish side Galatasaray S.K. stunned Arsenal 3-1 in Istanbul to advance to the quarterfinals.
Galatasaray took a shock lead in the 18th minute when Ebru Topçu converted a penalty. Arsenal equalized through Stina Blackstenius in the 35th minute, but Galatasaray regained the lead just before halftime through a stunning free-kick from Duygu Cengiz.
Topçu sealed the victory with her second goal in the 61st minute, sending Galatasaray to the quarterfinals for the first time in club history.
Quarterfinal Draw
The draw for the UEFA Women's Champions League quarterfinals will be held on March 17th. The remaining eight teams will be seeded into two pots based on their UEFA club coefficients, with the higher-ranked teams playing at home in the second leg.
