4 of 4: Last supermoon of the year to light up Canadian skies
Prepare for November's Beaver Moon, the final supermoon of 2022!
Skywatchers in Canada will have one last chance to witness a supermoon in 2022, as the Beaver Moon graces the skies on November 13th. This celestial spectacle is the fourth and final supermoon of the year, marking the end of a series of larger-than-usual full moons.
What is a supermoon?
A supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the moon's closest approach to Earth in its orbit, known as perigee. This alignment results in a slightly larger and brighter moon that appears closer to the horizon.
The Beaver Moon: Cultural significance
The November full moon has traditionally been called the Beaver Moon by Native American tribes. This name signifies the time of year when beavers begin to prepare for winter, building their lodges and gathering supplies.
When and where to see the Beaver Moon
The Beaver Moon will reach peak illumination on November 13th at 6:02 AM EST. It will appear full to the naked eye for several nights, offering ample opportunity for viewing. Look towards the eastern horizon after sunset to catch the moon as it rises.
